What is this medication?

Brinzolamide + Brimonidine, Simbrinza
Ophthalmic Alpha2 Agonist; Ophthalmic Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor

Brinzolamide + Brimonidine (Ophthalmic), Simbrinza is officially indicated to treat elevated intraocular pressure secondary to open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

How does this medication work?

Brinzolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase which reduces the secretion of aqueous humor, thereby reducing intraocular pressure.

Brimonidine reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow via selective alpha2 agonism thereby reducing intraocular pressure.

How should I take this medication?

Instill one drop into affected eye(s) every 8 hours.

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, use consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature.  Shake suspension before use and apply light pressure to lacrimal sac (inside corner of eye near nose) for 60 seconds after application to prevent drainage of the drop from eye

You Need to Avoid: Remove contact lenses before applying and wait at least 15 minutes after administration before reinserting.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting Brinzolamide+Brimonidine (Ophthalmic), Simbrinza make sure your physician is aware of any allergies (Sulfa) or medications you currently take, if you have liver disease, kidney disease, acute angle closure glaucoma, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular insufficiency, if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use two doses at one time.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at cool room temperature away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

Do not freeze.
