What is this medication?

RESTASIS/VERKAZIA/CEQUA (Cyclosporine)
Immunosuppresant Agent; Ophthalmic Calcineurin Inhibitor

RESTASIS/VERKAZIA/CEQUA (Cyclosporine) is officially indicated to treat keratoconjunctivitis sicca-associated ocular inflammation.

How does this medication work?

Immunosuppresive agent that reduces the production and release of interleukin II and inhibits interleukin II-induced activation of resting T-lymphocytes via inhibition of calcineurin.

How should I take this medication?

Instill one drop into each eye twice a day, approximately 12 hours apart. 

Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, use consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature.  Apply light pressure to lacrimal sac (inside corner of eye near nose) for 60 seconds after application to prevent drainage of the drop from eye.  Single use vials must be used immediately after opening and remaining content should be disposed of.  May use a lubricant eye drop 15 minutes before and after administration of cyclosporine if needed to irritation.

You Need to Avoid: Remove contact lenses before applying and wait at least 15 minutes after administration before reinserting.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting RESTASIS/VERKAZIA/CEQUA (Cyclosporine) make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store this medication at room temperature away from heat, light, and moisture. 

Single-Use Vials: It is important that 1 vial be used each time and immediately discarded after each use. 

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Eye pain or a burning sensation in the eyes are the most common side effect and may be managed with use of unmedicated lubricant eye drops.
