What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion, decreases inappropriate glucagon secretion, slows gastric emptying; also acts in areas of the brain involved in the regulation of appetite and caloric intake.

How does Mounjaro work?

Mounjaro improves the efficiency of incretin function by activating GLP-1 receptors and has been shown to work through multiple mechanisms of action including stimulating insulin secretion (glucose-dependent), inhibiting glucagon release, and suppressing hepatic gluconeogenesis; thereby reducing both fasting as well as postprandial glucose. The weight loss effects attributed to Mounjaro are believed to be due to improved insulin sensitivity, reduced energy intake through appetite suppression, and a delay in gastric emptying.

What are the most common side effects associated with Mounjaro?

Some of the more common side effects people report while using Mounjaro include nausea, constipation, dizziness, decreased appetite, and diarrhea.

Is Mounjaro safe?

Mounjaro is generally considered safe in doses of up to 15 mg weekly for adults. But there is a percentage of the population who should not take Mounjaro such as those with a history of medullary thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, and prior hypersensitivity reactions to Wegovy.
