What is this medication?

ENSPRYNG (Satralizumab)
Monoclonal Antibody

ENSPRYNG (Satralizumab) is indicated for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.

How does this medication work? 

ENSPRYNG (Satralizumab) is a humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptors and inhibits IL-6 signalling pathways involved in inflammation.

How should I take this medication? 

SQ: Loading dose: inject 120mg subcutaneously every 2 weeks for 3 doses (weeks 0, 2, and 4), followed by a maintenance dose of 120mg once every 4 weeks.

How to Take: Prior to using, remove the prefilled syringe and allow it to warm to room temperature. Administer the full amount in the prefilled syringe (1 mL). Administer subcutaneously into the abdomen or thigh. Rotate injection sites with each administration; avoid injecting into moles, scars, or tender, bruised, red, or hard skin.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting ENSPRYNG (Satralizumab) make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and current medical conditions.  Satralizumab can cause elevated liver enzymes, neutropenia, hepatitis B reactivation when used in immunosuppressive therapies and tuberculosis in patients treated with other IL-6 receptor antagonists.  Immunization with live-attenuated or live vaccines should not be used during therapy.  Administer all live or live-attenuated vaccines at least 4 weeks prior, and non-live vaccines at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

What if I miss a dose?

If a starting dose is missed, take the missed dose immediately, then maintain the 2-week dosing interval from your new starting date until the first 3 doses are complete, and then continue with ongoing doses every 4 weeks.

If an ongoing dose is missed, take the missed dose immediately, then wait the 4-week interval from your new starting date, and continue with ongoing doses every 4 weeks.

Speak with your healthcare provider if you have any questions about how to restart treatment or if it has been more than 8 weeks since your last dose.

How should I store this medication?

Store in the refrigerator at 2º to 8ºC (36º to 46ºF), until ready to use. If unopened, ENSPRYNG (Satralizumab) can be removed from and returned to the refrigerator, if necessary. If stored at room temperature, the total combined time out of refrigeration should not exceed 8 days at a temperature that does not exceed 30°C.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Skin rash, gastritis, nausea, elevated liver enzymes, antibody development, infection, fatigue, headache, joint pain, pharyngitis, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, cellulitis, pruritis, diarrhea, injection size irritation, depression, and falling.
