What is this medication?

ENSTILAR/DOVOBET (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone)
Topical Vitamin D Analog; Topical Corticosteroid

ENSTILAR/DOVOBET (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) is indicated for the treatment of plaque psoriasis.

How does this medication work? 

ENSTILAR/DOVOBET (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) is a synthetic vitamin D3 analog that regulates skin cell production and proliferation. It activates vitamin D receptors and inhibits proliferation of keratinocytes and enhances their differentiation.
Betamethasone may reduce the formation, release, and activity of inflammatory mediators such as kinins, histamine and prostaglandins.  Reduces cell migration to the affected area and reverses the dilation and blood vessel permeability result in decreased access of cells to the site.  It has anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and antipruritic properties.

How should I take this medication? 

Topical: Apply to affected area(s) once daily as prescribed.

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, apply consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed.  Apply to affected skin; rub in gently and completely. Wash hands thoroughly after use.

Note: Avoid application to broken or infected skin unless directed by physician.  Avoid applying other topicals at the same time unless otherwise directed to avoid dilution of product.  Not to be applied to groin, axillae, face, or diaper area.  Avoid application to broken or infected skin unless directed by physician.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting use of ENSTILAR/DOVOBET (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have any active skin conditions/infections, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  May cause hypercalcemia if it occurs hold medication until it resolves.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Burning, stinging, rash and itching of application site, HPA axis suppression.
