What is this medication?
COZAAR (Losartan)
Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker
COZAAR (Losartan) is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, and chronic kidney disease.
ALERT: WARNING
Drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue losartan as soon as possible.
How does this medication work?
COZAAR (Losartan) is a selective and competitive, nonpeptide angiotensin II receptor antagonist and blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Losartan, Cozaar also increases urinary flow rate and in addition to being natriuretic and kaliuretic, increases excretion of chloride, magnesium, uric acid, calcium, and phosphate.
How should I take this medication?
Oral: Take 25mg to 50mg once daily.
How to Take: Take with or without food.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting COZAAR (Losartan), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies and medications you currently take. You should be aware that Losartan has been associated with angioedema, cholestatic jaundice, hyperkalemia, hypotension/syncope and deteriorating renal function.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Chest pain, hypotension, fatigue, dizziness, pruritus, skin photosensitivity, skin rash, hyperkalemia, diarrhea, anemia, muscle pain, dry cough, nasal congestion.
