COMBIGAN (Brimonidine/Timolol)
What is this medication?
COMBIGAN (Brimonidine/Timolol)
Ophthalmic Alpha2 Agonist; Ophthalmic Beta Blocker
COMBIGAN, the combination of Brimonidine and Timolol (Ophthalmic), is officially indicated to treat elevated intraocular pressure secondary to open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who require adjunct or replacement therapy due to uncontrolled intraocular pressure.
How does this medication work?
Brimonidine reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow via selective alpha2 agonism thereby reducing intraocular pressure.
Timolol reduces intraocular pressure by reducing aqueous humor production and possibly increasing its outflow via blocking both beta1– and beta2-adrenergic receptors.
How should I take this medication?
Ophthalmic: Instill one drop into affected eye(s) twice daily approximately every 12 hours.
Note: Remove contact lenses before applying and wait at least 15 minutes after administration before reinserting.
How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, use consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature. Apply light pressure to lacrimal sac (inside corner of eye near nose) for 60 seconds after application to prevent drainage of the drop from eye.
